Daystar University receives over 1500 new students

[Monday, September 9, 1024] Since 9th September, Daystar University has bustled with activity as more than 1,500 freshmen admitted continued to stream into our campuses to take up their places.

On the first day, the new students accompanied by their parents received a warm welcome from the orientation team comprising continuing students, Faculty and staff, and which serves to quickly settle down freshmen to their new life on campus. 

The Vice Chancellor Prof. Laban Ayiro addressed new students and parents at the Athi River Campus Amphitheatre, accompanied by the Management Board, Senate, faculty, staff and the Orientation Team.

In his address, the VC committed to do everything possible to make student’s learning and stay at Daystar University worthwhile.

“As you learn and grow, remember education is not just for your personal advancement, but it also should impact those around you,” Prof. Ayiro told the young students.

The VC further encouraged parents to join the University together with their sons and daughters, and intentionally engage with them as they study.

The DVC FAP, Prof. Muturi Wachira said Daystar University was committed to offering the best possible infrastructure for quality education. He highlighted some of the ongoing projects including David Musau Mumama Learning Complex for the School of Law, Phase II of the School of Nursing, Phase II of the perimeter wall, student hostels, and staff housing to ensure students are taken care of.

On her part, the DVC Academic Prof. Faith Nguru explained that one of the hallmarks of Daystar University is the problem-based learning which embraces student-centred approach to teaching.  She called on students to engage with their Deans, HODs, Faculty and staff so that they can have prolific time at Daystar University.

The University Chaplain Rev. Miano Weche shared some nuggets of wisdom with the incoming students, urging them to view this new phase of their life as a farming project. He emphasizedon the importance of planting and harvesting at the proper time.

The orientation period culminated with teambuilding activities on Saturday, September 13, and Freshmen Chapel Service on Sunday September 14. Admissions for the September Semester intake will close on Friday, 27th September 2024. 

By 23rd September which marked the beginning of the second week of classes for the semester, admissions stood at 2,360, with 1,592 new students having already registered for classes.  Undergraduate programmes have the highest enrolment with 1,497 new students, of which 508 are enrolled in the School of Nursing and 220 in the School of Law.  Altogether, Masters’ programmes received 375 new students while Diplomas got  335.  Among the postgraduate programmes, the Master of Educational Leadership and Policy Studies registered the highest number, with 123 new students.
