[Athi River, Friday September 13, 2024] Daystar University Alumni Class of 2004 held its homecoming re-union at the Main Campus Athi River, twenty years since they graduated.

The Class was hosted by the Coordinator of Alumni Relations, Dr. Leah Komen, Public Relations Officer, Ms. Jean Murungi and Alumni Administrator, Walter Nalwa.

The Class was hosted by the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Laban P. Ayiro, and the DVC ARSA Prof. Faith Nguru.

The VC said that his greatest desire was to make Daystar University great. “Through God’s grace, I have seen Daystar University grow,” he said, citing the infrastructural development that had taken place since he took office in 2019 including, construction of the School of Nursing Complex, the perimeter wall and the upcoming School of Law complex among others.

“We want the world to know that we can have a University that is different and it is for this reason that we are diversifying our programmes, the VC told the alumni.

He further revealed that plans were underway to start The School of Agriculture in the thirty acres of land donated by the family of the late David Musau Mumama. The VC also revealed that the University was determined to start the School of Medicine. “It is my desire is to see the School of Nursing give birth to the School of Medicine before I leave Daystar.”

Prof. Ayiro invited the Alumni Class of 2004 to share their ideas with the University, and find a niche to partner with the University in the areas of interest including student mentorship, scholarships, internships and job placement among others.

The DVC ARSA Prof. Faith Nguru assured the alumni that the University had held on to the vision and mission of the founders.  She invited them to continue journeying with their Alma Marta, saying there were many opportunities to plug in.

On his part, the Deputy Chaplain, Rev. Josphat Kimacia encouraged the alumni to endeavor to partner with God, the Vice Chancellor and the University until there is a new dawn.

Referring to 2 Peter 1:19, Rev. Kimacia observed that with the support of alumni the star of Daystar University will continue to shine in the world.

The alumni were taken on a guided tour of Main Campus Athi River where they visited the Heroes Corner, School of Nursing Complex, Agape Library, the Gym, Dining Hall and Shine FM, among other places.

The class of 2004 could not hide their excitement about the developments that have taken place since they graduated. They were thrilled to see the modern gym, the refurbished and well equipped library with its comfy furniture and coffee vending machines, the equipment in the School of Nursing skills labs among other places. Their greatest joy was to reconnect with their old buddies, some of whom were meeting twenty years later.

Led by their Chair Ms. Freda Inchoga, the alumni presented Prof. Ayiro with a gift in appreciation of his outstanding leadership, and the work he is doing to bring development to the University.

The event, scheduled to end at 1:00pm ended after 5:00pm because they were reluctant to leave.

All-in-all, the alumni went home happy with the promise to meet and decide how they will partner with the University. Some of the areas that were floated by the members of the Class were student mentorship and scholarship among others activities.

The class also elected its leadership as follows:

  1. Freda Inchoga                      Chair
  2. Job Nyumu Solomon           Vice Chair
  3. Chris Karanja                        Secretary
  4. Agatha Mbulo                       Treasurer

At the end of the event, members of the Class were presented with a new Order of the Towel to remind them to continue being servant leaders in the community.
