[December 5, 2025] In a colourful celebration of identity, unity, diversity and creativity, Daystar University’s Main Campus Athi River came alive during this semester’s Culture Week.

The event lasted four days held from November 17, 2025 to November 20,2025, with each day carrying a unique theme that allowed students to proudly express who they are and where they come from. From the first day to the last, the campus was full of joy, music, dancing, learning and fellowship among students from different communities.

The week began with the theme wear your culture.  On this day, students walked around the campus dressed in traditional clothes from their different ethnic backgrounds. The Campus was awash with beautiful Maasai shukas, bright Kikuyu dresses, colourful Mijikenda wraps, Luhya and Kalenjin beadwork, Kisii headscarves and elegant outfits from the Cushite communities.

In one big cultural carnivore, students shared stories behind their attire, learnt traditional greetings from their respective languages, and took many pictures. It was a warm reminder that although everyone came from a different background, Daystar was home where all cultures were respected and celebrated.

The second day brought a creative twist with vintage wear. Students showcased clothing inspired by old-school fashion, flared trousers, baggy jackets, big sunglasses and retro-dresses. Alongside this was a cultural display, where different communities showcased items such as traditional tools, musical instruments, cooking pots, cultural decorations and historical artefacts. Each group explained the meaning behind their items and how their traditions have shaped their identity. The displays helped many students appreciate the deep history and wisdom found in the different ethnic communities represented.

Day three ran under a sportswear festival theme which splashed the whole campus with bright colours. Students wore jerseys, tracksuits and sports shoes from different renowned teams. Many also added colourful powders and paints to their outfits, turning the campus into a lively rainbow. There was dancing, games and friendly interactions as people celebrated the spirit of fun and togetherness. It was a day that reminded everyone that culture is not only about traditions but also about shared joy.

The final day brought style, taste and celebration. The theme was monochrome, where students dressed in single colour outfits. Some wore all black, others all white, brown, blue or red. The simplicity of monochrome fashion created a beautiful and elegant environment.

There was also food fusion with students sampling meals from different communities. From Maasai roasted meat, Luhya chicken, Luo fish, Mijikenda foods, Kalenjin mursik, Kisii matoke, and Cushite meals, everyone enjoyed a mix of flavours. The food experience helped students understand culture through taste.

The highlight of the day was the culture week gala night. Each cultural community presented a performance: songs, dances, poems and storytelling. The room was full of excitement and pride as different groups took to the stage to showcase their heritage. Among all the performances, the Luo community emerged winners, especially because of their outstanding cultural display. Their performance was powerful, well-choreographed and full of energy. The audience cheered loudly as the judges visibly expressed their impression by the creativity of the Luo presentation.

The Culture Week ended with joy, unity and a deeper appreciation for the beauty of the diverse communities that participated. It reminded everyone at Daystar University that despite coming from different tribes, languages and traditions, we can celebrate our differences and still stand together as one Daystar family.
