Missionary Nurse talks to Nursing students
Nursing students listen attentively to David Rondeau address
A missionary nurse, David Rondeau, visited Daystar University on Monday July 31 to talk to nursing students. David was hosted by HoD Nursing, Mrs. Keziah Kahiga-Njuguna.
He spoke about his 42-year journey as a missionary nurse from the time he became a Christian till he retired. David shared his experiences as a missionary nurse in the Navy where he attended to injured solders. In his slide presentation, David showed how African Christian nurses are now serving in missions, using his community-based mobile clinic.
David encouraged Daystar students to consider missions, saying that being a Christian nurse gives one opportunity to serve God in the line of duty.
“As you attend to the patients, you tell them about the love of God.” He however expounded that one can witness Christ in the line of duty in a hospital set up or can get into full time missionary work as a nurse. He was of the opinion that before one joins full time missionary work, he/she should first work in a hospital setup to understand medical and surgical nursing.
Speaking in the same event, the HoD Nursing Education Mrs. Keziah encouraged her students to acquire nursing skills, saying that as one becomes a missionary nurse, they need the skills. She appreciated the guest for coming to Daystar and for sharing his life story.
“I hope this talk will make a difference to you students to become the nurse that God wants you to become,” she said.
Pastoral Assistant Tabitha Mutheu reminded those present that work is God’s idea and that whatever they do, they should do it with love and faithfulness.
“Let’s open our eyes to opportunities that nursing gives us to evangelize Christ,” said the Campus Governor Mr. Laban Choti, who is also a nursing student.
Take home for Susan Muthoni Nyaga was that nursing is not all about being in a hospital set up, but going to places where solutions are needed.
