AA Kenya donates 1,000 tree seedlings to Daystar University

On Thursday July 13, 2023, Daystar University planted 1,000 tree seedlings in collaboration with AA Kenya.  The seedlings were donated by AA Insurance Brockers, a subsidiary of AA Kenya. 

The partners also donated 10 plastic dustbins to the University and Kes 60,000 to Daystar Falcons Rugby team. The donations were presented to the DVC, Finance Administration and Planning, Prof. Muturi Wachira, by the CEO AA Kenya, Mr. Francis Theuri.  

Mr. Theuri was accompanied by the Principal Officer AA Insurance Brokers Ltd CPA Benjamin Nyamai, the Acting Head of Business Development AA Kenya Mr. Teddy Mwanza, the Technical Training Manager AA Kenya Mr. Laban Nyaanga, and five other staff.  

Also present from Daystar University was the DVC ARSA, Prof. Faith Nguru, Chief Manager HR Mr. Pius Muia, the Chief Accountant CPA Samuel Mbithi representing the Chief Manager Finance CPA Phyllis Mutua, the Corporate Affairs Manager Mrs. Damaris Kimilu, Projects Manager Mrs. Coretta Ndunda, University Services Manager Ms. Caroline Mwangi, DUSA Campus Governor Laban Choti, students, Faculty and staff. 

Mr. Theuri expressed AA Kenya’s interest in partnering with Daystar University. He revealed that the University can enjoy AA products at subsidized rates including international driving licenses, car passport for regional travels, defensive driving for executive drivers, and discounted AA membership for the University, the faculty and staff among other products.  

“We are strong in partnerships and we are here today because we want to strengthen the collaboration with Daystar University,” said Mr. Theuri, further advising the University to “Plant fruit trees so that as you enjoy the shade you will also enjoy the fruits.”

Mr. Theuri’s proposal was welcomed by Daystar University through the DVC FAP, Prof. Muturi Wachira, who immediately directed that a team be put in place to craft an MOU between the two organizations covering such areas of mutual interest as defensive driving for executive drivers, international driving licenses, internships for Daystar students, and training for AA Kenya staff among other areas. 

Prof. Wachira thanked AA Kenya for their donations to Daystar University.  Over the last three years, the University has planted more than 100,000 trees in partnership with various organizations in the country.  

“We are now in phase 5 of the beautification of Athi River Campus, as we join the National Government agenda to increase forest cover,” said Chief Manager HR, Mr. Pius Muia. 

Mr. Muia further praised the AA Kenya Health Insurance cover for Daystar students, noting that medical cover complaints had reduced.  He revealed that the University also consumes other services from AA Kenya. 

“We are here to achieve the global agenda on climate change,” said Mr. Nyamai as he introduced the team accompanying the AA Kenya CEO.  

“We want to see this place change,” added Mrs. Coretta Ndunda, Daystar University Projects Manager, who has been a strong pillar in identifying partners to support the University’s beautification and afforestation efforts. 

The student government too added its voice in appreciating AA Kenya.  DUSA Athi River Campus Governor, Mr. Laban Choti said the tree and dustbin donations signified the desire for a cool and clean environment. He also thanked AA Kenya for the cash donation to the Falcons Rugby team.
