[July 5, 2025]  A team of Daystar University School of Law students and Faculty returned from the prestigious 34th Christof Heyns - All Africa Human Rights Moot Court Competition, hosted by the University of Cape Town (UCT) from June 29 to July 5, 2025.

Daystar University was represented by Stacey Maina (oralist), Abbigail Omondi (oralist), Ayub Okayo (coach) and Yvon Kendi (coach).

While the competition concluded before the final rounds, Daystar University students truly shone, leaving an indelible mark!

Competing against 41 English-speaking teams from across Africa, the Daystar team secured an impressive 10th position overall. This is a remarkable achievement and a testament to their unwavering dedication, countless hours of preparation, and exceptional legal prowess.

According to Mr. Okayo, the team represented Daystar University with immense pride and distinction, showcasing the caliber of our academic community.

“Though we narrowly missed advancing further, the experience was invaluable. Our students gained profound insights, honed their advocacy skills, and forged connections that will undoubtedly benefit their future legal careers,” he said further adding that the learning and growth experienced throughout this rigorous competition was truly worthwhile.

Speaking to the Infospot, Mr. Okeyo admitted that this year's performance, while just shy of last year's groundbreaking 4th place finish (their first time competing internationally!), underscores the consistent excellence of the Daystar University team, and the narrow margins that often define such high-level competitions.

The School of Law appreciates everyone who supported the students and the moot court program.

The Infospot congratulates the Team Daystar.
