[Athi River Campus, Sunday 14th July 2024] Daystar University hosted a readership challenge involving students from students from Alliance, Naivasha Girls, and Menengai Girls among other high schools.
The event was hosted by Timazi, an interdenominational ministry that aims at developing a generation of young and avid Christian readers, by inspiring high school students to cultivate a reading culture, particularly, Christian literature. Timazi also mentors high school students on writing skills and manuscript development.
This year’s Readership Challenge was based on a book authored by Daystar University Chancellor, Dr. Florence Muindi, The Pursuit of His calling. During the event, Dr. Muindi encouraged the high schoolers to cultivate friendship with God, trust in Him, align themselves with God’s purpose, and endeavor to pay the price as the Bible teaches.
“You cannot be a good disciple unless you bear the cross,” said Dr. Muindi, quoting Luke 14:27. She further advised them students to make good decisions while in high school.
Each year, Timazi selects a book by a Christian author and gives participating high school students questions to guide them as they read the book. Readers are required to write an essay about how the book has influenced their lives for God. These essays are sent to Timazi and the winning students and schools are awarded.
