[Monday, January 22, 2024] Daystar University Nairobi Campus was bustling with life as the 2024 Destiny Leadership Development Program (DLDP), Ex-candidates’ program started.
The annual program which is conducted by the Daystar Leadership and Professional Development Institute (DLPDI), admits high school graduates. The program has four pillars namely: Life Skills which equips young people with skills for post-high school life, Spiritual Formation, Information Communication Technology (ICT) literacy skills, and Chinese Language.
The program Coordinator Mrs. Jane Irungu set the tone with a devotion based on Jeremiah 18, paving the way for Mr. Sosnes Olindo, who welcomed the students into the program and highlighted the other programs offered by Daystar University.
The Director DLPDI, Prof. Abraham K. Waithima, shared insights on the program, and introduced two Destiny Ex-cans program alumni, Dr Magdaline Parsimei, a medical officer intern who graduated from Egerton University, and Lionel Tinega who is currently studying Computer Science at Strathmore University. The two alumni highlighted the impact the program had on their career planning, in demonstration of what the participants could expect.
The first session commenced with Faith Musango, a Daystar alumnus who facilitated introductions and ice-breaker games to foster unity among the participants.
The afternoon sessions were facilitated by Monicah Achieng and Collins Ouma, both experts in sign language. The students were excited at the prospect of learning and adding sign language to their skillset.
The day concluded with insightful interviews featuring two students, Edwin Muraya from Utumishi Boys High School and Neema Njoki from Riara High School. Both expressed expectations of gaining clarity on suitable career paths each could possibly take. Brimming with enthusiasm, Edwin and Neema expressed excitement about the transformative journey ahead, eager to absorb the wealth of knowledge and experiences DLDP will offer.
The day set the tone for the participants of 2024 Destiny Leadership Development Program, with its promise for growth, self-discovery, understanding others, teamwork and impactful leadership.
As the students reflected on the first day’s events, they unanimously agreed that it was filled with excitement, adventure, and fun even as they looked forward to the next six weeks.
