On 6th November 2020, a Daystar University Postgraduate student, Victor Enzoveri, led the rehabilitation of Maragoli Hills forest in Vihiga County. Among those present included the Permanent Secretary, Maj. General Retired Dr. Gordon Kihalangwa who was also the chief guest, Deputy Governor Dr. Patrick Saisi, Chief Officer Environment Vihiga County, Dr. Boiyo, Western Region Deputy Conservation Officer William Cheptoo, Conservation Officer Vihiga County Mr. Isaac Maiyo, Maragoli Hills CFA members.
The chief guest Dr. Gordon Kihalangwa emphasized the importance of tree planting, noting that the area enjoys two rain seasons. Mr. Enzoveri is the Maragoli Hills Community Forest Association Resource Mobilization Officer.
“As young as we are, I call upon the youth to come out of their comfort zones and engage in tree planting in order to help rehabilitate the forest. We can give back to our society through such contributions,” said Enzoveri. He added that so far together with the help of CFA members they have managed to plant indigenous trees on 7-acres of land and looked forward to covering the entire hill with trees in an effort to control soil erosion and improve the vegetative cover of the area.
For this exercise, Victor managed to raise 4,000 indigenous seedlings through the support of friends and well-wishers including our very own Vice-chancellor Prof. Laban Ayiro.
