[Thursday, 11th December 2025] Amphitheatre at Main Campus in Athi River was filled with joy, warmth, and gratitude as staff and faculty gathered for the annual Christmas Luncheon.
The event, which was gracefully steered by Ms. Winnie Mutinda from Student Affairs department, brought together members of the Daystar community to celebrate God’s faithfulness and reflect on the year’s journey.
Present was the Vice Chancellor Prof. Laban Ayiro, who had cut his leave short to attend the party, the new DVC ARSA, Prof. Samuel Muriithi, DVC FAP, Prof. Muturi Wachira, members of the University Management board, faculty, staff and Daystar Enterprise Limited staff, a subsidiary of Daystar University.
In his address, the Vice Chancellor, reminded staff that Daystar University is, at its core, a Christ-centered institution. He emphasized that service at Daystar is ultimately service to the Kingdom of God. He described the luncheon as a sacred moment of thanksgiving, a time to declare the Lord’s goodness and acknowledge his hand upon the University.
Prof. Ayiro further reflected on how God has caused Daystar to flourish, planting hope where despair once lingered, and assured staff that the God who began the good work at Daystar University will surely bring it to completion.
He also encouraged staff to cultivate forgiving hearts, remain prayerful, be thankful, and show goodness to all, noting that Daystar University is not standing still but marching forward. Drawing from Isaiah 61:3 and the book of Joel chapter 2, he spoke of restoration, renewal, and divine favor.
Looking ahead, he shared updates on upcoming developments, including the expected completion of the University Chapel in August 2026, and plans to construct the School of Communication and Phase 2 of the School of Nursing in the coming year.
He concluded by wishing all staff a happy and prosperous 2026, praying that God’s presence would accompany them in all they do.
At the same meeting the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Laban Ayiro announced the appointment of Prof. Samuel Muriithi as the new Deputy Vice Chancellor Academic Research and Student Affairs.
In his remarks, Prof. Muriithi urged staff to place their trust in God rather than in networks and connections. He expressed gratitude to the Vice Chancellor for his mentorship and emphasized the importance of hard work, sacrifice, and wise decision-making. He called upon Deans, HODs, faculty, students, and staff to support him as he steps into his new role, and he reminded the community that Daystar University is a multicultural institution where racism has no place.
The DVC FAP, Prof. Muturi Wachira, congratulated Prof. Muriithi on his appointment. Echoing the Vice Chancellor, Prof Muturi affirmed that the gathering was a celebration of God’s faithfulness. He outlined the many things God has done for the University in the course of the year, including payment of salaries, on time, completion of many projects including Fay Smith Girls hostels, among other things.
The Chief Manager, Human Resource, Mr. Pius Muia, echoed on the theme of unity, describing Daystar University as a family where everyone belongs. He encouraged staff to accommodate one another and uphold professionalism in conduct and speech, urging the community to continually pray for the University.
Mr. Muia further urged managers and supervisors to lead people under them with humane heart."
Representing DUGSA and SSADU, Mr. Michael Kirumbu thanked staff for their service to Daystar University and encouraged continued teamwork. Drawing from 1 Peter, he reminded the community that “we are just vessels” entrusted with caring for the flock, and he extended warm Christmas wishes to all.
Rev. Kimacia offered a heartfelt reflection, inviting staff to look back and thank God for His goodness. Quoting Psalms 100:1 and 100:3, he reminded the gathering that thanksgiving is the highest expression of a redeemed heart and affirmed that God is good and His love endures forever.
The luncheon concluded with a word of prayer from Rev. Kimacia, sealing the gathering with gratitude, unity, and hope for the year ahead. He concluded his message by stating that "thanksgiving is the highest expression of a redeemed heart."
