Daystar University is one of few Kenyan institutions accredited by NACOSTI to review government research protocols prior to the studies being conducted.
The announcement was made by the Ag. Director for Registration, Accreditation and Quality Assurance at the National Commission for Science, Technology and Innovation (NACOSTI), Mr. Boniface Wekesa Wanyama yesterday.
Mr. Wanyama broke the news on Thursday 20th April during the first meeting of the planning committee for the 2nd DU-NACOSTI Annual Conference.
Mr. Wanyama revealed this on 21st April 2022 while addressing the joint Daystar University – NACOSTI Planning Committee for the 2nd Daystar University – NACOSTI Research Process and Research Ethics Conference, scheduled for 28th – 30th September 2022.
He reiterated that all studies conducted in Kenya must have a minimum of two licences – the ethical clearance by a NACOSTI accredited Institutional Scientific Research Ethics Committee (ISERC), and the NACOSTI permit.
He further noted that all government studies are also expected to adhere to this requirement.
The Daystar University Ethics Review Board (DUERB) which reviews protocols in the area of Environmental, Social, and Health sciences was accredited by NACOSTI in October 2016, making Daystar University one of the few institutions in Kenya offering this service.
