[Monday, October 14, 2024] The School of Nursing welcomed 15 exchange students from St. Paul's University in Minnesota, accompanied by two lecturers.
Present to receive the exchange students was the DVC-ARSA, Prof. Faith Nguru, the Dean, School of Nursing Dr. Susan Njuguna, and Public Relations Officer, Ms. Jean Murungi.
The event marked the start of a 14-day exchange program designed to expose the students to Kenya's healthcare and cultural landscape.
In her opening remarks, the School Dean Dr. Njuguna, highlighted the significance of the exchange programme, revealing that during their stay, the exchange students will join the Daystar nursing students for clinicals at Kangundo Level 4 hospital on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, offering them a unique opportunity to observe and engage with healthcare practices in Kenya.
Beyond the clinical experience, the students also participated in community outreach activities, including visits to a local children’s home and Daystar Mulandi Primary School, where they engaged with the children as part of a school health programme.
A visit to the Bomas of Kenya was a key cultural landmark, giving the exchange students a taste of Kenya’s rich cultural heritage.
The School of Nursing Congressman, Mr. Gareth Oyongo, led a team of 15 Daystar University students, specially selected to guide the guests around the Campus. This team also stayed with the exchange students for the 14 days of their stay in Daystar University and Kenya. The Campus tour began at the School of Nursing, where the visitors were introduced to the state-of-the-art skills labs and the cutting-edge equipment used to train Daystar’s nursing students. The tour also covered key University facilities such as the library, the gym, and the poultry project, providing the guests with a comprehensive view of the Campus.
Through this exchange programme, Daystar University aimed to foster strong academic and cultural ties with nursing institutions abroad, while offering the Minnesota students an invaluable opportunity to broaden their perspectives on global healthcare practices.
