[Monday August 19, 2024] The Vice Chancellor Prof. Laban P.  Ayiro led the University to break ground and hand over two sites for the construction of phase II of the perimeter wall and a students' kitchenette.

The kitchenette, whose tender was awarded to Sharaddha Builders Ltd, will be constructed between Patience and DUPA Hostels. While, the construction of the 1.6 kilometre perimeter wall Phase II, which will run from the Clinic to the river next to David Musau Mumama Learning Complex site, was awarded to Able Enterprises Limited.

Speaking at the groundbreaking ceremony, Prof. Ayiro lauded the DVC FAP, Prof. Muturi Wachira, and the evaluation Chair CPA Samuel Mbithi for their dedication and transparency in the tendering process.

Referring to milestones the University had made towards improved infrastructure, Prof. Ayiro said that the construction of Phase II of the perimeter wall, the students’ kitchenette and the gatehouse was a matter of faith in God.

“For us it is not a small thing to continue the construction work, it takes God,” he noted.  “We should never forget where it all began because it is by remembering that the Lord will take us to higher heights, he said as he reminisced how Phase one of the perimeter wall began with a donation of Ksh 16.7 Million.

The ceremony was also attended by the DVC FAP, Prof. Muturi Wachira, the Architect Musyoka Kioko of ACE Designs, members of Management, Senate, staff and students.

Prof. Wachira assured faculty and staff that the University does competitive bidding and that management does not interfere with the work of the evaluation committee led by CPA Samuel Mbithi.

“The tender is competitive and transparent” he said, further congratulating Sharaddha Builders Ltd and Able Enterprises Limited for winning the their respective bids. He confirmed that the University had worked with the two companies before and was confident they will do excellent job.

Architect Kioko thanked the University Management for trusting them with yet another job, and promised to deliver quality work. Quantity Surveyor Stephen Mutua also appreciated the opportunity to partner with the University in the infrastructure transformation.

The commissioning of the work was done by the Deputy Chaplain, Rev. Josphat Mung’ara Kimacia, who was assisted by Resident Tutor Rev. Fredrick Ogore, Dean of Students Rev. Mutinda Musyimi, and former Chaplain Rev. Steven Nduto.

The construction of the kitchenette is expected to take 24 weeks while the perimeter wall will take 12 weeks.
