On May 31, 2023, the Vice-chancellor, Prof. Laban P. Ayiro held a meeting with Thesis and Dissertation supervisors at the DAC Auditorium Nairobi Campus.
On May 31, 2023, the Vice-chancellor, Prof. Laban P. Ayiro held a meeting with Thesis and Dissertation supervisors at the DAC Auditorium Nairobi Campus.
The meeting attracted Full-time and part-time Faculty and PhD students who are supervising or would wish to supervise postgraduate study research.
Speaking on effective supervision, Prof. Ayiro said the University was focused on improving graduation rates for Masters and PhD students. For that to happen, he said there must be good relationship between the student, the supervisor and the university.
The VC added that supervisors were key role models in efficient administration of postgraduate studies. He thus called on lecturers to uphold quality in their supervision, cautioning them against putting their signatures on doubtful work.
In her address, the DVC-ARSA Prof. Faith Nguru encouraged lecturers not to shy away from supervising theses and dissertations, noting that this enhances their professional growth. She however called on them to critique and enhance their supervision approaches to incorporate group supervision.
“We are here because we want to help the students complete their programmes while maintaining high standards as we grow together in academia,” she said.
The DVC FAP Prof. Muturi Wachira promised that the University will do its part to remunerate supervisors while managing workload concerns, a promise that was reiterated by the Vice-chancellor.
The Director of Academic Affairs Prof. Samuel Muriithi encouraged collaboration between students, supervisors and the university for better results. “The role of universities in creating a conducive environment for supervisors is critical and determines supervisors’ drive,” he said.
The dons left the meeting with a firm resolve to improve the quality of supervision and help students to graduate in record time.
