Prof. Laban Ayiro presents his book to the Head of Education Monica Blagescu at the British Council on Tuesday 15th August 2023

On 15^th August 2023, Daystar University Vice Chancellor Prof. Laban Ayiro paid a courtesy visit to the Head of Education at the British Council, Ms. Monica Blagescu.

He was accompanied by Daystar University ODeL Director Dr. Caroline Ayuya and his Research and Protocol Officer, Ms. Grace Mbogo-Liyai. 

Others present from the British Council included Nzike Osodo (Education Project Coordinator, Cultural Engagement), Mary Ndinguri (Country Programs Manager, Higher Education and Commonwealth), and Darius Isaboke (Programme Manager, Education portfolio in Basic Education). 

The purpose of the meeting was to explore possible partnership around education assessment in correctional services; strengthening capacity for research; alumni engagement; agents and Counsellors' hubs.

Daystar University, in partnership with State Department for Correctional Services, plans to conduct a national survey on education demographics among offenders and practitioners in Kenya, beginning in September. 

“Together with the State Department for Correctional Services, Daystar University is conducting a survey to establish education levels, age profiles and the interest of offenders and practitioners in Kenyan prisons and aftercare services. The aim is to be able to offer a blended format degree program,” said Dr. Caroline Ayuya, the Team leader for Daystar University Correctional Services Initiative.

The survey is intended to identify training needs among inmates and correctional staff in government institutions with a view to extending higher education opportunities to those who qualify and desire to progress academically. 

Dr. Ayuya added that the research will be conducted in collaboration with Calvin University. Earlier this year, Daystar University signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Calvin University in USA to collaborate in strengthening the capacity of Daystar University in offering correctional services in Kenya. 

 Prof. Laban Ayiro , the Principal Investigator of the Correctional Services survey was also recently appointed to the Correctional Education Association Board of USA, an opportunity that stands to benefit Daystar University and Kenya.
