On Monday May 8, 2023, Daystar University Main Campus Athi River was bustling with activity as new students reported for the May 2023 intake.
As the new students complete their first week since classes began on May 15, more than 1,000 freshmen have been admitted to join more than 6,000 who were enrolled for the January semester. The ongoing intake will close on May 26, 2023.
All full time students were received at the Main Campus Athi courtesy of the Orientation team consisting of DOULOS, Daystar Christian Fellowship, Daystar University Students Association, staff and Faculty. Part time evening and postgraduate students took their orientation virtually every evening throughout the week.
The Orientation week began with a welcome address to freshmen and their parents, hosted by the Ag. Vice-chancellor and DVC FAP, Prof. Muturi Wachira at the Amphitheatre.
Prof. Wachira was accompanied by the DVC Academic, Research and Student Affairs, Prof. Faith Nguru, the Principal Nairobi Campus Prof. Michael Bowen, Senior Management, Senate, Faculty and other key officials of the University.
Prof. Wachira thanked the parents for entrusting their sons and daughters to Daystar University and invited them to collaborate with the University in the education and development of the students.
The Acting VC noted that Daystar University was one among the few universities that have embraced problem-based learning, in preparation to absorb high school graduates of the Competency Based Curriculum (CBC).
PBL is a teaching approach which enables students to solve real-life problems in a classroom setting. “Daystar University is ready for high school students who are now in CBC,” he said.
The DVC-ARSA, Prof. Faith Nguru called on parents to help students to understand who they are and what their future holds. She also challenged the students to take responsibility for their new-found freedom.
The DVC further said that Daystar University will continue to augment its programmes with a high level of integrity to develop well-rounded and transformed professionals who can transform others.
On his part the Dean of Students, Rev. Mutinda Musyimi advised the parents to be part of the academic journey of their sons and daughters. “Don’t just leave the student with us, follow up on them,” he advised.
The Principal Nairobi Campus Prof. Michael Bowen also added his voice saying, “Daystar University will provide a foundation that will enable the student differentiate between right and wrong.”
The orientation week ended with a worship service on Sunday May 14, 2023, at the Main Campus Athi River. Classes for the May 2023 semester began on Monday May 15, 2023 with the return of continuing students.
