In October 2022, a team from School Farms Africa in Guernsey - a British Channel Island - visited Daystar University Main Campus Athi River where they toured various projects including the University Library, School of Nursing which was under construction, the student Gym, and the poultry farm. 

During the visit, Peter and Mariane Sarl, Gerry and Hellen Morrissey also attended the Chapel service on 18th October where Peter Sarl preached on 18th October. 

The four are Board members of School Farms Africa, a non-denominational charitable organization in Guernsey that supports vulnerable children in Nairobi slum schools.  

During the welcome reception, Daystar University Vice Chancellor Prof. Laban P. Ayiro lauded the Guernsey government and the people of Guernsey for supporting vulnerable children in Kenya through School Farms Africa.  

“We are very grateful for the role you play in supporting vulnerable children in Kibera and other slums in Nairobi. Our role is to be good stewards of God given resources through the School Farms Africa Board by the Guernsey government, Forest Methodist Church in Guernsey, and all donors.  If we exercise good stewardship practices, we shall be pleasing God,” said Prof. Ayiro. 

During their stay in Kenya, the team also visited Pillars of Hope Children’s Centre near Daystar University Athi River Campus, Kibera FM Primary School, and Kawangwrare FM Primary School where they donated stationery and clothes.  

Some of the projects the team has implemented in Kenya include sinking a dam in Kiserian Farm, drilling boreholes in Kibera School and Kiserian farm, construction a modern kitchen, storage facility, classes, hall, and ablution block at the Kibera school.  

During the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, the team raised relief funds, courtesy of Oversees Aid Development Grant- Guernsey, to support over 450 families for a period of four months.  

 “We are grateful to God to be to be part of this noble task of supporting vulnerable children realize their God given potential. We hope through these projects, they will realize the love of God,” said Peter Sarl.  

During the October 18th Chapel service, Prof. Laban Ayiro who is also the Chair of School Farms in Kenya encouraged the University community to create a lasting relationships that promote mutual respect, love and genuine commitment to each other similar to that of David and Jonathan in 1Samuel 18:14.
