Student-led Orientation Team receives freshmen with song, dance and jubilation

On 5th September, Daystar University Main Campus was bustling with activities as 933 new students reported on the first day of orientation. These were a part of more than 2300 students admitted for the September 2022 intake.

New students have since continued to report, especially following the Presidential election verdict by the High Court on Monday 5. This is the largest single intake ever recorded in the history of Daystar University.

The new students and their parents were received at the Main Campus Athi River. The students were immediately put in small guided orientation groups commonly known as families. The groups operate throughout the week, making it easy for new students to settle down in their new environment away from home.

At the same time, parents and guardians were taken on a guided Campus tour before joining the the University Senate, Management, Faculty and staff for the Vice-chancellor’s welcome address.

In his remarks, the Vice-chancellor Prof. Laban P. Ayiro urged parents to support their  children's academic pursuit  while at the University. “I want your total support for the students because Daystar cares,” he said.

He gave the parents his commitment to shepherd and nurture the students. “We share happiness and sadness  and relate closely with the students,” he said as he expounded on the University’s ethos of excellence, transformation and servanthood.

He encouraged the students to each know their story.

“When you hung onto your story, God comes through for you,” he added as he expounded on the Daystar Scholarship programme which helps bright but needy students with proven character. The Vice-chancellor intimated that he spends 40% of his working time raising funds for scholarships and University projects.

The orientation programme will culminate with Freshmen dinner on the evening of Friday 9th September, hosted by Daystar University Students Association, followed by teambuilding activities on Saturday facilitated by DOULOs, and Chapel service on Sunday facilitated by the Chaplaincy. The students will begin classes on Monday12th September, together with the continuing students.
