Dean's Welcome Message

Welcome to the School of Law

The School of Law was licensed to offer legal education on 30th July 2018 and opened her doors to the first batch of students in September of the same year.

The Daystar School of Law seeks to develop competent, well-trained and morally upright legal practitioners to serve as advocates, magistrates, judges and legal managers in various organizations with the unique ability to interpret legal issues. Daystar University aspires to offer a fresh breath into the tainted image judicial systems that have been compromised in the course of dispensing justice. By presenting a unique degree program that integrates Christian values, Daystar University seeks to make a significant difference that will impact Africa and the world at large. The Daystar Law program is designed with a strong inclination towards Media and Communications Law, Intellectual Property Rights, Medical Law and Ethics, and Social Science theory. The law subjects have been carefully selected to give students the opportunity to appreciate principles of law and their relevance to practitioners and managers.

The School has two departments namely:

  • Department of Intellectual Property Rights (IPR)
  • Department of Media and Communications Law

In order to assure a well trained and competent lawyer, the School uses assessment methods such as take-away assignments (to built research skills), sit-in tests (to test mastery of the law under pressure), oral tests (to ensure our students ‘walk’ with the law) and Moot Court presentations (to develop lawyering skills). At the end of second year, students are required to undertake an attachment lasting a minimum of eight (8) weeks in a general industry. At the end of third year, another attachment at the Law Courts dubbed ‘Judicial Attachment’ lasting a minimum of eight (8) weeks is required. An international attachment lasting one to three months in a legal environment is offered between the first and second semesters of the fourth year. To this end, the School has made arrangements with various institutions in Canada, USA, Europe and Africa for this purpose. In the course of their studies, students have an opportunity to participate in Moot Court competitions nationally and internationally.
