Daystar University automates Cafeteria and Transport services

[Athi River, Monday August 12, 2024] Effective September 1, 2024, students will use an automated KCB Smart Card to pay for cafeteria and transport services.

In readiness for the rollout date, the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Laban P. Ayiro, launched issuance of the KCB Smart Card on Monday 12th August at the Main Campus Athi River.  Since then, students have been registering for issuance of the KCB Smart in preparation for the start date of 1st September.

The cashless payment system has been developed in partnership with ZED Animated Visuals and the Kenya Commercial Bank (KCB).  Click here to watch a short video https://youtu.be/3E16oNWxVfg

In his speech, Prof. Ayiro committed to ensuring that students get their money’s worth. “I want to see a variety of food served in the cafeteria. We shall walk in here and enjoy meals with the students,” he said, further promising that the Management will continue to improve services within the University.

The DVC Finance, Administration and Planning  Prof. Muturi Wachira reiterated that Management was committed to delivering quality services to students. He revealed that food courts will be set up in different spaces within the Campus including School of Law and School of Nursing complexes.

“We are truly a University because it is in universities where knowledge and practice come together,” said the DVC-Academic, Research and Student Affairs, Prof. Faith Nguru.  She further urged the community not to be afraid of change.

On his part, the Dean of Students lauded student leadership for their support of the new changes, while the Athi River Campus Governor Gabriel Ekusi appreciated that student welfare was being taken care of. He was persuaded that the system will bridge the gap between the services offered at the University and the money paid by the students.

The automated cashless payment system enables students to load their KCB Smart cards with money for payment of cafeteria and transport services. To board university buses, students will only need to scan a QR code.

Staff will also be issued with the KCB Smart Card for use in university cafeterias.

As the VC launched the KCB Smart card, he promised to look into how to occasionally  assist students who cannot afford meals.  During the launch, ZED Animated Visuals was represented by the Director Mr. Nick Mwendwa while KCB Bank was represented the Relationship Manager Ms. Curet Ntabo.
