Prof. Ayiro further encouraged graduate students to participate in the intellectual community in the University.

“We want to show the world that we are different, so that no one will doubt your graduate certificate. We are going to produce the first Metanalysis PhD in Kenya, to show that Africans can also do it,” said the VC.

Prof. Ayiro gave the following tips to the graduate students, among others:

  1. Become pro-active and take responsibility for personal graduate experience.
  2. Participate in the intellectual community of the University
  3. Know the requirements and timelines of their respective programs
  4. Create and follow an annual plan
  5. Establish positive relationship with their supervisors
  6. Build professional approach to their studies
  7. Seek balance and support in life

The Ag. DVC-ARSA, Prof. Martha Kiarie said that the purpose of the meeting was to give the Graduate students a tool to guide them, so as to enhance their academic research experience.

“We want you to clear your graduate studies as fast as possible. We are empowering you to take charge of your thesis process. If you get lost while writing your thesis/dissertation, before asking your neighbor stop and check what the handbook says,” said Prof. Kiarie.

In her remarks, Director, Research and Graduate Studies Sr. Prof. A. L. Lando praised the Vice-chancellor as a result-oriented and Christ-centered leader, who had mastered the art of emotional intelligence in his leadership.

“With this handbook, power is in your hands,” she advised graduate students, further inviting them to come to campus and write their thesis and dissertations.  All graduate students have remained online since 2020.

Ms. Edith Osoro and Mr, Timothy Juma Wetungu spoke on behalf of Master’s and PhD students respectively, appreciating the handbook as the answer for what postgraduate students have been looking for.

The handbook is available at the Directorate of Research and Graduate Studies at Nairobi Campus, in hard copy only.
