Purpose of the program

The purpose of this program is to integrate theory and practice, bringing together key disciplines that equip students to be active citizens and leaders both in the local and global context. The program lays emphasis on the nexus between the twin fields of international relations and security and will provide students with the basic analytical frameworks and practical skills necessary to, understand, analyze and manage security and international issues at local, regional and international levels.

The program will explore the study of military problems while redefining the concept of security vis-à-vis non-traditional military threats.

Rationale

This program combines International Relations with Security Studies to form a solid grounding for graduates to confront security issues in a globalized world. This is informed by the fact development cannot take place without security and vice versa. The curriculum focuses on teaching the conceptual tools and analytical skills with which students can understand and analyze political norms, institutions, processes, and behaviors across different political systems and in international contexts. In order to achieve this, the PBL approach to learning will be employed.
