At the beginning of every semester Daystar University sets aside a day of prayer to commit the semester to the Lord. For the September 2022 semester, that day was Tuesday September 27. Prayers were held at both Nairobi Campus and the Main Campus Athi River, while Evening and Postgraduate students had prayers online on Friday September 30th.
The theme for the day was: “My soul thirsts,” anchored on the Semester theme Dwelling in God which is drawn fromJohn 15:5 “I am the Vine you are the branches. The one who remains in me and I in him bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing.”
The guest speaker, Rev. Weche Miano encouraged the Daystar community to pray according to God’s will, clarifying that the will of God is present in the scriptures.
He also cautioned the congregation against thanking God in comparison with other people’s predicaments, which he termed immature.
The Vice-chancellor Prof. Laban P. Ayiro brought a message on humility, derived from Proverbs 28:13.
“Whoever conceals their sins does not prosper, but the one who confesses his sins, finds mercy,” he noted, further calling on the community to have value in what they do as a people.
“We should have deep self-reflection, looking at the past to enable us see where the future is taking us,” said the Vice-chancellor.
The University Founder Rev. Prof. Donald Smith observed that Christians can only be transformed through brokenness. “It is not enough for us to succeed academically and achieve success without being transformed,” he said.
The day culminated with breaking of bread, as the congregation celebrated the holy communion.
