On Wednesday March 5, 2023, Daystar University signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the Institute of Certified Secretaries (ICS).

Daystar University was represented by the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Laban P. Ayiro and the Director, Daystar Leadership and Professional Development Institute (DLPDI), Prof. Abraham K. Waithima, while ICS was represented by the Chief Executive Officer, FCS Jeremiah N. Karanja and Corporate Secretary, Ms. Gloria Kikete.

Areas of collaboration under this MOU include Training, Research and Publication, and
Consultancy.

According to Prof. Ayiro, Daystar University will be moving swiftly to implement contents of the MOU.

“God sends us opportunities to impact lives and the signing of this MOU is one such,” he said. adding that this was an opportunity to serve God diligently.

He called on the parties to build the name of the collaboration for the purpose of service of humanity. If we do not serve diligently, the MOU will quickly fizzle out, but if we do, the Lord will be gloried and our clientele will send the word out to others,” he added.

Mr. Karanja observed that sometimes ICS gets funding but lacked internal capacity, hence the reason ICS partners with universities for training and research. Mr. Karanja revealed that he has a bias for religious sector, and wished to secure funding to work with Christian institutions.

The Director, Daystar Leadership and Professional Development Institute (DLPDI), Prof. Abraham K. Waithima revealed that talks began in early 2021 but discussions gained momentum in 2022.

Also present was Gilbert Kiprono from ICS, Coordinator, Certificate DLPDI programmes, Mrs. Jane Irungu, and Public Relations Officer, Ms. Jean Murungi

ICS is a Public body under the National Treasury and incorporated under an Act of Parliament, Chapter 534 of the Laws of Kenya. ICS is a member of Corporate Secretaries International Association (CSIA), which is the global umbrella body for the corporate secretaries and governance professionals.

The core mandate of the Institute is to promote the practice of good governance both in private and public sectors. In fulfillment of this mandate, ICS has over the years been involved in development of governance documents including “Mwongozo”, capacity building, and advisory services in the area of governance
