Congratulations on your admission to Daystar University. We have been praying and waiting for you and are excited that you are finally here.

Please take note of the following:

The Orientation Week begins on Monday 16th May 2022 at Daystar University Main Campus Athi River and ends on Sunday 22nd May 2022.

We are located approximately 40 kilometres from Nairobi and 5 kilometres off Mombasa Road junction. If approaching from the direction of Nairobi and Athi River, take the second left turn after Greenpark Estate immediately after the KENHA bridge currently under construction.  If approaching from Machakos, drive past the KENHA bridge and take the next U-Turn back to the Daystar turn off.  If you have a smartphone, follow this location PIN for direction. On Monday 16th May 2022, the Vice Chancellor will address all new students and their parents/guardians at Daystar University Main Campus Athi River, from 10:00am to 12:30pm

The Orientation Week is meant to welcome you and get you acquainted with your University. It should also help you to make friends faster and give you an unforgettable freshman experience, as well as impact you spiritually and socially as you begin your academic journey on 23rd May 2022.


Upon arrival, a group of amazing Daystarians specially selected from various student groups and ministries will receive and help you to get the best experience of our wonderful University. They make the Orientation Team.


Is Orientation Week necessary?

Yes! In fact, it is compulsory, and a very important part of our Daystar culture. With that said, we request your full presence and cooperation during this week.


1. The Orientation Week runs from Monday 16th May to Sunday 22nd May 2022:
  • All Diploma and Undergraduate students, will report to Daystar University Main Campus Athi River.

  • Students and parents from distant places who may arrive earlier than 16th May and have inquiries can contact our Helpline +254 748 100 759.

  •  Postgraduate and Evening Undergraduate students will take their Orientation Virtually via Zoom every evening starting at 5:30pm daily.  Login credentials will be sent to you directly via SMS.  Here is the programme for day 1. We have also prepared a detailed Online Orientation Pack which you can access any time for guidance.

  • There will be no classes during the Orientation Week, but we have lined up a schedule of important activities for you!  The Day Orientation Programme will also be in your Infopack.

  •  Each day has specific tasks to be accomplished as outlined in the programme that you will receive at the Registration Desk upon arrival at the Main Campus in Athi River.

  • Accommodation will be offered to Boarders and there will be sufficient transportation for Day scholar students commuting to Athi River Campus from Nairobi & its environs).  Please check the Fees Structure and pay the Orientation Fee for your respective category.

  •  All meals, transport and boarding services will be provided to you by the University in line with your student status either as a Boarder or a Day scholar, under the Orientation Fee.

  • Boarders will be required to stay on campus at all times during Orientation Week, and Day scholars will be required to be on campus until 5:00pm daily when they board the bus to their respective homes or go to their off-campus halls of residence unless otherwise stated in the Orientation Programme.

  •  Medical Cover: All students studying on-Campus are required to have medical cover as detailed in the Fees Structure. Students with a separate family cover should bring a letter from the insurance firm in order to be exempted from paying. For more information contact hr@daystar.ac.ke

Orientation Message from The AG. Vice-Chancellor

Welcome Message by Deputy Vice Chancellor Academic, Research and Student Affairs - Prof. Faith Nguru

Please Note

  • There will be verification of original certificates by Heads of Departments (HoDs), hence you are required to bring the  documents used to apply to the University for this process.

  • Matriculation ceremony: The Vice Chancellor and top University officials will matriculate all new students in a special and important ceremony that involves swearing in and signing of a Consent Form to officially admit you into Daystar University.  Please plan to attend as scheduled in the Orientation Programme.

  • Dress Code: All students are advised to always observe the Daystar University dress code as prescribed in the Student Handbook.  The dress code observance includes the Freshmen dinner and sports activities.

  • On the evening of Friday 20th May 2022, there will be a Freshmen Dinner which you are required to attend dressed up in dinner wear. Kindly bring along appropriate dinner wear, especially if you are boarding the entire period. The best dressed Freshmen will be awarded.

  • On Saturday 21st May 2022, you will be required to attend team building and bonding activities at the Main Campus Athi River. Please bring along comfortable sportswear for this, including closed-toe sports shoes, water bottle, sunglasses, a hat/cap, as well as any necessary medication e.g., insulin, asthma inhalers etc. The only gadgets allowed on that day are mobile phones. Other gadgets like speakers are prohibited on the playgrounds.

  • Owing to the weekend activities, ALL Day scholars from both Athi River and Nairobi campuses will be required to board on campus from Friday afternoon to Sunday afternoon. The Orientation Week will end on Sunday after Chapel service. Therefore, if this applies to you, you are encouraged to report packed on Friday morning for the activities on the programme.

  1. Transport to Athi River will be available on Friday afternoon from Nairobi Campus.

  2. Accommodation will be given and transport back to Nairobi will be available on Sunday afternoon.

  • On the evening of Saturday 21st May 2022, we shall have a Freshmen Night to showcase talents.  All freshmen are encouraged to sign up with Orientation Team leaders in order to be scheduled for stage performances either individually or in pairs/groups.

  • On Sunday 22nd May 2022, we shall have community Chapel service at the Amphitheater as we close the Orientation Week.  All are required to attend.

2. Transport:
For Day scholars commuting to the Athi River Campus daily, buses will leave the Nairobi Campus at 6:30am and leave Athi River Campus at 5:00pm daily, unless otherwise communicated. 

3. Meals:
Boarders will be provided with all meals for the duration of the Orientation Week, while day scholars will be provided with meals at 10:00am tea breakand lunch hour daily, and all meals from Friday dinner until Sunday lunch hour.  Kindly inform Orientation Team leaders about any special meal requirements as early as possible.

 
4. Accommodation:
It is highly recommended that ALL Freshmen board on campus during the Orientation Week. All you are required to do is pay the orientation boarding fee. For clarity, this includes freshmen from:

  •  Nairobi Campus

  • Athi River Day Scholars commuting daily to & from Athi River Campus)

  •  Athi River students with off-campus accommodation.

If you choose to board, you will be hosted in the on-campus University hostels from Monday 16th through Sunday 22nd May 2022.  After the Orientation Week, all Freshmen will be required to change rooms and move to their permanent accommodation for the semester as booked through the Student Portal.


Please bring your personal effects (soaps, toothbrush/paste, bucket, towels, bedding, and slippers etc).  Please note, the Athi River Campus gets quite cold at night and quite warm / hot during the day.  Plan to bring appropriate wear for both extremes.  A heavy blanket/duvet is advisable. Beds and mattresses will be provided by the University

Mode of Learning for May 2022 Semester


Greetings.

I take this opportunity to welcome students, teaching faculty and staff to the May 2022 Semester.


Orientation for new students begins on 16th May 2022 and ends on 22nd May 2022.  Classes for all students begin on 23rd May 2022 as detailed below:

  1. All Postgraduate classes will be taught online.
  2. All Undergraduate evening classes will be taught online.
  3. All Certificate classes will be taught using the physical mode (face to face).
  4. All Diploma and Undergraduate day classes will be physical except for classes below 10 students and classes above 50 students which will be taught online.
  5. All classes with practical components, regardless of size, will be physical.


Further details regarding the exact courses that may require allowable alternative modes or blended teaching will be provided by the HODs and Deans of Schools.


End-of-Semester exams will be both physical (face-to-face) and online based on the applicable mode of learning.
