Zetech University Benchmarks with Open Distance and eLearning (ODeL)
Daystar University has always had an eLearning platform which was being used by some faculty members. However, the true potential of the Daystar’s eLearning platform was put to test during the outbreak of COVID-19, owing to the need of the University to continue with its core mission which is to offer holistic and transformative education. It was at the wake of the pandemic that the Directorate of Open Distance and eLearning (ODeL) was institutionalized. Since then, the directorate has managed to position itself and earned admiration in Kenya and the region at large.
Daystar University School of Law launches Daystar University School of Law Association (DUSOLA)
On February 2, 2022, Daystar University School of Law students launched the Daystar University School of Law Association (DUSOLA). The aim of the association is to bring together law students, prepare them for the practice, sharpen their skills in mooting and uphold the rule of law among themselves and the entire University. The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Laban P. Ayiro was represented by the Ag. DVC-FAP, Dr. Evans Amata. Dr. Amata assured the Association of the Vice-Chancellor’s good will and support for the School and its endeavors. Dr. Evans Amata was persuaded of the Association’s potential to sharpen the students’ skill in the practice. He also urged them to uphold the ethos of Daystar University: Excellence, Transformation and Servant-leadership.
Signing Of Performance Contract
On February 2, 2022 the Daystar University top leadership, Prof. Laban P. Ayiro, Prof. Faith Nguru, and Prof. Muturi Wachira signed their performance contract for the year 2021/2022. This was witnessed by the Council Chairperson, Prof. Henry M. Thairu and the Chair of Spiritual nurture & Human Resource Committee of the Daystar Council, Ms. Nyambura Musyimi and other members of the Daystar Management Board. The signing of the performance contract is significant in the actualizing of the strategic plan that was launched in 2021 in the spirit of the New Dawn. The performance contract signing is set to raise the quality of controls and efficiency in service delivery.
Daystar University hands over School of Nursing project to the contractor.
On January 28, 2022, the University handed over the site dedicated for the construction of the School of Nursing. The site which is now under the contractor, Lexmi International, shall have works beginning ahead of the forty weeks that will have the Phase 1 of the project completed.
Daystar University holds a Prayer Day
On January 27, 2022 the University set aside it daily operations and gathered in both Nairobi and Athi River Campus to pray and commit the January 2022 semester to God. This semester’s theme was drawn from the book of Proverbs 16:3; Commit to the Lord whatever you do, and he will establish your plans.
Sr. Prof. Agnes Lucy Lando named a member of the Jury in the 7th Edition of the Pan-African (Re) Insurance Journalism Awards
Professor Agnes Lando, PhD, of Daystar University, School of Communication and Director of Research and Postgraduate studies has been named a member of the jury in the 7th edition of the pan-African (re)insurance Journalism Awards by the Continental Reinsurance Plc. The Pan-African Re/Insurance Journalism Awards recognize the outstanding work of journalists on re/insurance from across the continent. Successful candidates have to demonstrate how their articles have raised awareness and understanding of the re/insurance sector in Africa.
Staff and Faculty changes and new appointments
Late last year and early this year, the following staff and faculty changes were made: - Prof. Abraham Waithima was appointed -Director DLPDI Â Dr. Samuel Muriithi was appointed Director of the newly institutionalized Directorate of Academic Affairs. Faculty Pedagogy Workshop
On January 28, 2022, the office of the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Academics, Research and Students Affairs (ARSA) together with the Directorate of Academic Affairs carried out a refresher workshop for both fulltime and part time faculty of Daystar University. The aim of the workshop was to strengthen the Problem Based Learning (PBL) mode of teaching.
