Yesterday Monday 21st March 2016 we held the Inaugural Kizito Memorial Lecture at the DAC Auditorium in the Daystar Nairobi Campus. It was a very refreshing event. I didn’t have the priviledge to be taught by Ms. Kizito as I am a B.Com graduate so there was a lot I learnt about her. Several things were said over and over and over by alumni from the 1990’s to those of the 2000’s:
- She believed in her students and taught her students to believe in themselves.
- She had no qualms telling it like it is and encouraged each student to pursue the line they were best in
- She provided options and perspectives and just enough pressure to keep people moving
- She showcased that life is about more than just money…success had to be achieved from a place of a balanced life.
That struck a chord because it explained why so many of her students went on to achieve great things.
I found an article on one of the social networking sights that resonates with what I heard yesterday so thought to share it here.

What’s Your Capacity?
Driving into a fuel station for a refill, the car has a fuel tank capacity of about 60 litres. While the pump attendant filled the tank, a motorcyclist also rode in to the second pump. Before I knew it, the motorcycle was full and the rider rode off while the car was still at the pump. I got there before the motorcyclist but he left before me. It suddenly occurred to me that it would be absolutely silly of me to think “I got here before him.” How come he is leaving before me? “Why?” Our capacity is not the same.
The truth is there are times in life when we are stuck at the pump of divinity. Those who came in behind you have gone ahead of you; those who learnt from you seem to have outran you; those who graduated years after you are now the ones calling the shot and it seems as though you are stuck. Could it just be that your capacity is bigger than theirs? Could it be that your own assignment needs longer preparation time? Could it be that your character is being formed for the task ahead?
You do not know what you need. Only the One who designed the journey knows what is important. Why don’t you hold on?
People will often say my friends are doing this…My friends have done that… My friends have this…My friends are now…But I’m still here doing or having nothing.
It is important to know that you spent nine months of formation in your mother’s womb alone and you were given birth to alone. Therefore never classify anyone as your mate.
God’s dealings with you and in your life are never an estimation of what is happening in the life of your friends or colleagues.
God’s dealing in your life is very PERSONAL and unique and should never be an estimation of physical and tangible things.
Take your gaze off other people’s paths and concentrate on your race.
Speedometers are different.
Have faith… You will earn your own medal…along the appointed path…At the Lords appointed time.

We remember Ms. Kizito, not to behave like her but to celebrate a life well lived to raise others to the best they can me. We each must choose to pursue God and His appointed plan for us the best of our capacity and His enabling.
Walk your path and finish your race to the honour of your Heavenly Father in the arena He has raised and appointed you for.
