Daystar University Alumni Association (DUAA) prides itself in chapters because they are the engine of the association. Chapters are sub-groups of alumni association formed based on the geographical location, area of interest or year of graduation and must advance the vision, mission, values, and functions of DUAA and Daystar University. Apart from the Coast chapter, there are many other existing DUAA chapters that are active and vibrant. These are South Sudan, Burundi, Nairobi, Commissioned Fellowship International (CFI); Class Chapters such as class 1996, 1997, 1998 and 1999.
On 6th October 2018, DUAA launched its Coast chapter in Mombasa at Sentrim Royal Castle Hotel. The event saw 35 members present during the launch. The Ag. VC Prof. James Kombo was present and officiated the event. The alumni from all walks of life, living and working at the Coast, graced the occasion. The meeting began with a brief session of singing followed by a word of prayer from Alex Mutuku, the marketing officer at Daystar University. After extensive introductions and catching up, the DUAA board representative Ms. Rose Mwaura, the board Secretary in charge of projects and Chapters, gave opening remarks and a brief history of how the chapter was formed. She also initiated the selection of DUAA Coast Chapter leadership, where five members were picked to lead the coast Chapter. The selected leaders are: – Rev. Julius Nudi- Chairman, Caroline Kendi-Vice Chair, Secretary- Evelyne Atieno, and Treasurer-Sarah Morintat
Prof. James Kombo, who was the chief Guest for the DUAA Coast Chapter Launch, began his speech by highlighting various instances in which alumni of Daystar came to his aid. He was moved by how alumni of Daystar exhibit servant leadership. In his speech, the VC acknowledged the commitment of the alumni in honoring the launch by coming in large numbers. He said, “You have demonstrated the uniqueness of Daystar today”. The VC commended the DUAA office for bringing this chapter launch to execution. He also mentioned that any association which seeks to engage with its members is the reason the members stick together. He urged the officials selected to commence from this point and strategize on the way forward for the new Coast chapter.
Prof. Kombo presented the DUAA constitution to Rev. Nudi, the chairman of the coast chapter, to mark the launch and a cake was cut to celebrate the new DUAA Chapter.
