CBK Governor sets out to Rescue Banks from Liquidity Challenges

Central Bank of Kenya (CBK) yesterday announced it would provide a credit facility from today to banks or micro-finance institutions faced with liquidity problems.

“From tomorrow, Monday, at 11am, we will provide a facility to any bank or microfinance institution that comes under pressure arising from no fault of their own,” Dr Njoroge said in a press briefing yesterday.

CBKs Governor Patrick Njoroge also moved to reassure the markets caught off-guard by the Chase Bank’s troubles that the sector is healthy and would be back to normalcy “as soon as possible”.
