Guide on Access to Daystar University Library Resources (online, print, and audio-visual)

Daystar University Library provides print, audio-visual, and electronic information resources that support the learning and research needs of the university’s students and faculty. This guide provides instructions on how to access these resources;

Access to the Print and Audio-Visual Collection

  • You can find out what print and audio-visual information resources the library holds by visiting the library Online Public Access Catalogue (OPAC) at http://webopac.daystar.ac.ke/
  • Open http://webopac.daystar.ac.ke/ to get the catalog’s search interface.
  • On the search interface, you can either use the standard or advanced search to enter your search term.
  • The catalogue allows you to search by the author, title, subject, or topic.
  • It is advisable to use the advanced search for it provides for more refined searching.
  • The catalogue is web-based and therefore accessible from anywhere.
  • To get the information resources that you identify through the catalogue, you will need to visit our libraries.

Access to Electronic Books & Electronic Journals

The Daystar University Library E-books and E-journals can be accessed in two ways: within the university premises and off-campus.

 

Access within the University Premises

  • Visit the Daystar University homepage at www.daystar.ac.ke
  • From this homepage, you will see the library portal labelled ‘Library
  • Once you click on ‘Library’ you will see ‘Digital Library’ as one of the icons within ‘Library
  • Click on the ‘Digital Library’ and you will see these subheadings: E-Books, E-Journals, and Abstracts.
  • Click on either E-Books or E-journals to get the list of e-book or e-journal databases that the library provides access to.
  • For each of the databases, a subject description is provided.
  • Select the database\s that provides the subject you are interested in.
  • The selection will lead you the database’s home page from where you can do your search.
  • Each of the databases provides various search and browsing options.

 

Off-Campus Access

  • Off-campus access will require log-in credentials. If you have not received yours you can request for the same by sending an email to referencelibrarian@daystar.ac.ke
  • Indicate your student and National ID/Passport number in the email.
    Two ways for off-campus access:

 

Through the Library Portal

  • Visit the Daystar University homepage at www.daystar.ac.ke
  • From this homepage, you will see the library portal labelled ‘Library’
  • Once you click on ‘Library’ you will see ‘Off-Campus Access” as one of the icons within ‘Library’
  • Click on the ‘off-campus’ link and you will be directed to a log-in page
  • Sign-in with your assigned off-campus access credentials
  • Once you sign in you will see a list of e-book and e-journal databases
  • For each of the databases, subject strengths are provided
  • Select the database\s that provides the subject you are interested in
  • The selection will lead you to the database’s home page from where you can do your search
  • Each of the databases provides various search and browsing options

 

Through the URL: http://webopac.daystar.ac.ke:2048

  • Type this URL:  http://webopac.daystar.ac.ke:2048  on to your web browser
  • You will be directed to a log-in page                                                                            
  • Sign-in with your assigned off-campus access credentials
  • Once you sign in you will see a list of e-book and e-journal databases
  • For each of the databases, subject strengths are provided
  • Select the database\s that provides the subject you are interested in
  • The selection will lead you to the database’s home page from where you can do your search
  • Each of the databases provides various search and browsing options.

 

Access to Daystar University Theses & Dissertations Abstracts

  • Visit the Daystar University Institutional Repository (IR) at http://dspace.daystar.ac.ke/
  • Once you click on http://dspace.daystar.ac.ke/ you will see Theses and Dissertations Abstracts as one of the items within the IR.
  • Click on the Theses and Dissertations link to get a list of main subject areas
  • Select the subject area of your choice – this will lead you to sub-subjects within the main subject area
  • Click on your preferred sub-subject to get a title list of theses and dissertations abstracts within the selected sub-subject
  • Select a title of your choice to open its abstract

 

 

Access to Daystar University Past Exam Papers

  • Visit the Daystar University Institutional Repository (IR) at http://dspace.daystar.ac.ke/
  • Once you click on http://dspace.daystar.ac.ke/ you will see Past Examination Papers as one of the items within the IR.
  • Click on the Past Examination Papers link to get a list of schools
  • Select the school – this will lead you to list departments within the school
  • Click on your preferred department to get a title list of past examination papers within the selected department
  • Select a title of your choice to open the paper
