On Monday 4th January 2021, the Athi River campus was a bee-hive of activity as hundreds of new Undergraduate and Diploma students reported for the orientation week.

Orientation for Postgraduate and Evening undergraduate students was conducted online, via zoom.

Students reporting to the Athi River Campus were accompanied by their parents and guardians.

The new students were jubilantly received by a group of vibrant continuing students drawn from the Doulos Team. Doulos is a group of students trained in group leadership who facilitate the orientation of new students.

Meanwhile, parents and guardians were taken on a guided tour of the Main Campus and later hosted to tea by the Vice-chancellor, Prof Laban Ayiro, Senate and Management, at the Amphitheatre.

The parents would later be joined by the students for the Vice-Chancellor’s address.

The Vice-chancellor urged the students to embrace what makes them different as well as merge their talents and abilities to enable them stand out and be noticed. “I expect you to have a very strong mind, don’t start wayward behaviour that your parents did not instil in you,” he advised.

The VC further expressed his expectations of the students: character-doing what is expected of them, endearing spirit, competence and commitment, among others.

The Deputy Vice-chancellor (Academic Affairs) Prof. Faith Nguru promised to give holistic education to the students and encouraged parents to be part of their children’s education.

The University Chaplain Rev. Steven Nduto also promised the parents that their children will never walk alone, noting that there were people to walk the academic journey with the students.

The orientation programme which began on Monday 4th January culminated with a dinner hosted by the Daystar University Students Association (DUSA) on the evening of Friday 8th January 2021.

Orientation programme helps new students to get started with campus life, as they get settled in their new environment.

 By the time classes began on 11th January, more than 600 new students had been admitted to various academic programmes for the January 2021 semester.
