Students Launch My Portal APP
On Wednesday April 11, 2019, the Daystar Information Technology Association (DITA) unveiled a smartphone application called My Portal. Among the attendees were the HOD Computer Science Mr. Fredrick Ogore, Computer Science lecturer Zipporah Mwololo, Mr. Maurice Kioko, from Admissions and Records Department.
The Brilliant Minds behind the creation of the app are Michael Bukadi, Nathaniel Mkaya, Robert Bonke, Brian Kamau, Lebon Bauma, Evans Chepsiror and Nick Njoroge.
Speaking during the launch, HOD Computer Science Mr. Fredrick Ogore acknowledged the excellent work displayed by the students and thanked them for their diligence and brilliance. Quoting Proverbs 22:29, he took pride in overseeing the brilliant innovation. Mr. Ogore encouraged the audience to be passionate about what they loved, adding that innovation comes from passion.
According to Michael Bukadi, a 4th year computer science student, the development of the App was inspired by the fact that he did not like having to go to the portal all the time, “I needed something convenient,” he said.
The App, largely created for convenience, has all the information available on the student Portal. It will enable students to receive grade notifications, class schedules, financial updates and class reminders every day.
Robert Bonnke added that the creation of the My Portal App was a journey that took a half month of making trials. The App was initially meant for ACS students but after seeing that it would benefit all students, they decided to open it up everyone to access.
“The My Portal App can easily be downloaded from Google play store,” he said.
DITA is a club under School of Science, Engineering and Health.
