SOS Children’s Villages Kenya is an independent social development organization caring for orphans and vulnerable children (OVCs). It was established in Kenya in 1973 and currently has five Children’s Villages in Nairobi, Mombasa, Eldoret, Meru and Kisumu.
SOS Children’s Villages Kenya choose to work with Daystar University in achieving its legal & professional recognition of SOS parents/mothers, based on the understanding that as an accredited, certified and recognized University, Daystar will equip the caregivers to improve on the quality of care and protection of children and youth under their care.
Under this partnership, Daystar will admit, train and issue certificates to SOS mothers within the provided framework of education in the Kenyan system. The entry requirement for the certificate course was to be a D+ or its equivalent.
Representing the DVC Academics Affairs, Prof. Levi Obonyo lauded the initiative and noted that this was a great effort in linking the theoretical approach to the practical engagement on issues of children in Kenya.
On his part, the SOS representative praised Daystar for setting quality training standards in matters of children, which sets it apart from other institutions in the region. He noted that SOS felt honoured to be associated with Daystar.
