DAYSTAR UNIVERSITY SHINES IN PRAGUE
Once again, Daystar University, through its faculty and graduate students, had a great presence at the International Communication Association (ICA) annual Conference.
From 24 – 28th May 2018, ICA held its 68th annual conference at the Hilton Hotel, in Prague, Czech Republic. The conference, themed, VOICES, attracted more than 4, 000 attendees and had more than 3, 500 papers presented.
The Daystar University team comprised three faculty – Mrs. Hellen Maleche, Dr. Leah Komen, and Sr. Prof. A. L. Lando. The graduate students included Don Bosco Onyalla (PhD Student), Hellen Ogodo, Eunice Ndung’u, John Kamau and Miriam Ayieko (MA Communication Students). The Daystar faculty who didn’t manage to travel to Prague but whose papers were presented by colleagues are Dr. Wambui Wamunyu and Brenda Wambua.
Throughout the conference, Daystar prominently featured in Prague, especially in the board meetings and functions (23 & 24 May), where Sr. Prof. Lando is the first and only African sitting on the ICA board. Daystar was also mentioned in the plenary sessions during the presentations of the out-going President, Prof. Paula Gardner; with regard to Daystar’s role in networking and mentoring the Continent in (communication) scholarship and research. During the Conference, Sr. Prof. Lando and Miriam Ayieko received copies of the 67th ICA Conference theme book series: Interventions: Communication Research and Practice in which their chapter, “Toward Africa Continental Academic Body and Africa-Centered Scholarship: The Case for Internal and External Collaboration in Research and Practice” has been published.
ICA is an academic association for scholars interested in the study, teaching and application of all aspects of human and mediated communication. ICA publishes six major peer reviewed journals, and holds a large annual conference and smaller regional conferences throughout the year.
