Change of Guard in Involvement and Shine FM
Daystar student media outlets, Shine FM and Involvement Newspaper held a joint handover ceremony at Valley Road campus on Saturday May 26, 2018. The event was graced by the Dean School of Communication Prof Levi Obonyo, HoD Media and Film Studies Dr. Wambui Wamunyu, Media Hub Coordinator, Mr. Nathan Masambu, Involvement Faculty Advisor Dr. Beatrice Mbogoh, Shine FM Faculty Advisor Mr. Erick Kadenge, Involvement and Shine FM staff, and staff from the School of Communication.
The Dean School of Communication noted that Involvement remained unmatched in the region as a newspaper for student journalism. “Involvement is probably the leading student newspaper in the region. Closest to it is the student newspaper of the University of Dar er Salaam,” he said, challenging the new team to make the platforms better and to keep the brand high.
He underscored the importance of partnerships, calling on the Department of Media and Film Studies to seek partnerships with local and international media houses in order to provide the graduates of Involvement and Shine FM easy transition into the job market.
The outgoing Involvement Editor-in-chief Mr. Joseph Nduti challenged the incoming team to do their best to promote excellence in journalism. ”If you call on us, we will be there to offer our help,” he promised.
In her acceptance speech, the incoming Editor in-chief Miss. Earnestine Vera promised tough times ahead for the incoming team, but was quick to explain that it was for the good of the newspaper. “We will learn and grow together,” she said. She also hoped that Involvement and Shine could do some functions together.
The outgoing Shine FM Station Manager acknowledged the input of the faculty and staff in the School of Communication in assisting Shine FM to achieve its goal. “It is not easy, but keep your heads high, do your work diligently and pray,” was her advice to the incoming team.

The team taking over the lead of Involvement include Ernestine-Vera Kabushemeye, Editor-In-Chief, Consul Simiyu Wayira, Nairobi Bureau Chief & Managing Editor, Eric Spira, Athi River Managing Editor, Kevin Namunwa, Online Editor, Betty Kamemba, Graphics Editor, Joshua Weru Warui, Revise Editor, Tola Kofa, News Editor, Michelle Muthoni Kamau, Swahili Editor, Ivy Baraiywo – PR Manager, Scott Muriuki – Marketing Manager, Anna Kakobe, Graphics Assistant, Sandra Warigia, Graphics Assistant, Andrew Rubia, Acting Sports Editor.
The Shine FM incoming team consists, Kevin Kimaili taking up the position of the Station Manager, Mukundi Francis Murithi, Assistant Station Manager/HR, Patrick Mutinda Malombe, Production Manager, Dorleen Wabere Programming Manager and Faith Mwikali Kaulu, News Manager. The position for the Corporate Communication manager is yet to be filled.
