CITAM Ngong and Karen DLPDI Ex-Candidates Graduate
On Friday April 20, 2018, eighty-four ex-KCSE candidates graduated from the Destiny-Pathway program of the Daystar Leadership and Professional Development Institute (DLPDI).
During the 3-month duration of the program, the 84 trained at CITAM Karen, and formed part of more than 700 former high-schoolers enrolled in this year’s program.
The DLPDI Destiny program is offered in partnership with different organizations and aims at transitioning KCSE ex-candidates from high school to colleges and universities.
The graduation ceremony took place at Daystar University’s Nairobi campus and was attended by parents, guardians, sponsors, pastors, trainers of the graduands and officials of Daystar University.
DLPDI is the arm of Daystar University that offers demand-driven leadership and professional training in response to the ever-changing business environment. It is the University’s innovative response to emerging societal needs.

This year, DLPDI partnered with various institutions key among them Missions of Hope International, Compassion International, Christ is the Answer Ministries (CITAM), and Deliverance Church Zimmerman. The program curriculum includes life skills, computer literacy skills and spiritual formation. This year, DLPDI had seven different centres in Nairobi’s Mathare Valley, AIC Ndarakwa and AIC Nderu in Kiambu County sponsored by Compassion International, Deliverance Church in Zimmerman and Daystar Valley Road campus.
Since its inception three years ago, the program has experienced exponential growth, with participants increasing from 56 participants in 2016 to over 700 this year.
Among parents of this year’s graduating class was former Education PS, Prof. James Ole-Kiyiapi and Justice Daniel Kiio Musinga of the Court of Appeal.
The Guest of Honor was Mr. Steven Mutero, a Daystar University alumnus from the class of 2002, and Managing Director of Hamjambo Connections Ltd.
In his speech, Mr. Mutero urged the graduands to be sure of what they wanted to achieve in life, and to stay within the margins. “Set boundaries for yourselves, think high, think low, but remain within your margin,” he advised.
Speaking at the same function, Daystar University Ag. Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic Affairs), Prof. Bernard Boyo urged the graduands to stay relevant with God in their actions and thoughts in order to be successful.
“What you do matters to the society,” he said. The graduands were awarded certificates of participation.
According to the DLPDI Director Prof. Abraham Waithima, the ex-candidates program, which focuses on Spiritual formation, ICT and life skills, has impacted lives of many young people.

“The testimony the Institute has received as a result of the program is proof of the transformation and development of the Church and society,” he said.
In his remarks and charge to the graduands, CITAM Ngong Youth Pastor, Benson Wendo, implored the candidates to apply the knowledge and skills they had gained, at home, in school and in all aspects of their lives. He also called on parents to offer full support to the young people in order to enable them realize their full potential.
“This ministry and partnership with Daystar University has done us proud. With confidence, we can now say that we have responsible citizens to contribute positively to our families, the Church and society,” said Pastor Wendo.
Also in attendance were faculty members Dr. Samuel Mureithi, Mr. Jimna Waweru from Daystar University School of Business and Economics, Rev. Josphat Musili, Assistant Chaplain Athi River Campus, DLPDI staff and Daystar University Corporate Affairs Team.
DLPDI is the arm of Daystar University, created following a recognition that the business environment is constantly changing, and therefore new strategies are required both to survive and to make meaningful progress. The Institute recognizes that the business and organizational leaders need to constantly re-tool in order to respond to the changing dynamics. DLPDI offers short courses that impart practical skills to professionals in various sectors.
