DAAD Professors Visit Daystar University
The 6th scholarship will be awarded on 14th March 2019, and the guest of honor will be Magdaline Kiyeng, currently an MA Communication student and one of the 2017 MCWA scholarship recipients.
Six professors from a network of German universities in applied sciences visited Daystar this past week to explore opportunities for partnership. The visit was part of a scoping mission seeking to enhance cooperation between the Kenyan and German governments by bridging the gap between Kenyan universities and practical needs in the industry. The DAAD delegation was led by Prof. Dr. Jacob Lempp from Rhine-Waal University of Applied Sciences and comprised Lena Guthel and Lempp Jabal from the same university, Prof. Dr. Vera Hummel from Rentlingen University Business School, and Prof. Dr. Kay Pfafflu-Berger from the Centre for Business Technology in Africa. They were hosted by the Ag. Vice-Chancellor Rev. Prof. James Kombo, Ag. DVC Academic Affairs Prof. Levi Obonyo, Dean, School of Science, Engineering and Health Dr. Martha Kiarie, and Dean, School of Business and Economics, Dr. Evans Amata.
The discussions were focused on Daystar’s School of Science, Engineering and Health, and the School of Business and Economics. Kenyan universities that will participate in the program will be part of a 2-year DAAD-funded project seeking to identify and bridge the skills gap between industry and universities, and specific collaborations in research, teaching, conferences and summer school experiences for students.
