UNIVERSITY CHAIR AND DUSA LEADERS MEET
Daystar University Council Chair, Prof. George Krhoda and DUSA Leaders had a cordial meeting on 12th January, 2018. The meeting had student representatives from both campuses.
Giving a summary of the meeting, Prof. Krhoda said that they discussed the current state of affairs. “The students are upbeat about how things are moving back to normalcy and how the repairs were going on. Some have been completed, some are ongoing and others will be worked on,” he said.
He indicated that the students raised questions about long-term concerns such as the sports fields for Nairobi Campus and other Academic questions. He added that the academic issues will be handled by Senate as that is under their jurisdiction.
During the meeting, Prof. Krhoda noted that there were challenges facing Kenyan universities in general. He clarified to the students that universities were going through financial, academic, enrollment struggles as well as faculty development issues related to government directives on PhD faculty requirements. Also challenging is the small pool of students eligible to join universities. He explained that whereas the issues are not unique to Daystar, the university in keeping to its mandate is committed to bringing a comprehensive lasting solution to the questions.
As the meeting drew to a conclusion, student leaders shared suggestions on how the University can market itself better and volunteered to be part of the process.
The student leaders also revealed to the Infospot that indeed there was a meeting between the Chair of the University Council and the student associations. This meeting, the student leaders opined, indicated hope and belongingness as the University moves forward.
