University Response to Fire Tragedy
The Chaplaincy and Dean of Students offices wish to thank the University community for a fast response in aid of five students affected by the fire tragedy at the Athi River off-campus Hostel C last weekend. The fire tragedy gutted down 62 houses. The affected included 5 first year Government sponsored students, 5 Professional Cleaners and 12 Securex Guards.
The University evacuated the five affected students the University hostels immediately where they were assisted with supplies, counseling and prayer.
On Tuesday 5th September, a special giving was done during Chapel at Athi River Campus, Ksh.21,750 was raised. The Chaplaincy, Dean of Students and Counselors appreciate the generousity displayed by the community. Money received through the helpline and chapel contributions has since been distributed to the affected. Financial contributions are still being received through: 0727263822 while clothes and other material donations are still being received at DCF offices on both Nairobi and Athi River campuses.
The Counselling office encourages the community to continue supporting the affected members emotionally, financially and by presence; and also advises the community to avoid raising curios questions. All who have actively engaged in responding to the crisis are appreciated. I Corinthians 12: 25-26.
