Student Tours Germany through DAAD
Stella Nyagwencha, a Clinical Psychology PhD Student at Daystar University visited the University of Marburg (officially known as Philipps-Universitat Marburg) in Germany from 1st-31st August, 2017, funded by the German Academic Exchange Program (DAAD).
While in Germany, Stella was hosted by the Department of Psychology in the Clinical Psychology division of the University of Marburg. Speaking to the Infospot, Stella acknowledged that her stay left “an indelible mark as a highlight not only to my budding career as a clinical psychologist, but also in my life as a whole.”
Attributing her comfortable stay to values championed by Germany Chancellor and leader of Christian Democratic Union Angela Merkel, Stella was full of praise for her supervisors Dr. Nater Mewes and PD. Dr. Antonia Barke at Marburg University. “Under the leadership of Prof Dr. Winfried Rief who heads the Department of Clinical Psychology, these two were not only my trainers but also my mentors throughout my stay. They guided me to prepare an article for submission to an international journal, a task which I completed in just under two and a half months.” This was quite a tour de force, given the fact that students at their university usually take a year to complete such articles,” she said, adding that her supervisors also helped with data analysis and guided to write her dissertation.
Stella said her experiences in Germany not only expanded her horizons but also made her a better psychologist. “I will forever be grateful to them,” she quipped.
