Rugby Update: – Falcons Fly Higher (#TakeMatters)
The Daystar Rugby team has continued to lift the Falcons banner. The team did it again in the last two tournaments: Driftwood 7s held on 2nd– 3rd September at Mombasa Sports Club and Kabeberi 7s held on 9th -10th September, 2017 at Kenya Rugby Foundation Union grounds, Ngong Road.
In the driftwood 7s, the Falcons started the tournament on a low, losing their first game to Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology (MMUST), 0-5 but picked up to win Embu 21-7 in the final game of the day. After encountering other tough matches that weekend, the Falcons managed to get to the finals, and were awarded winners of the Bowl Category after trouncing Northern Suburbs.
Falcons drew in their first two games at the Kabeberi 7s against Mwamba and Nondies 12-12 respectively. This was a good performance from the Falcons in that both teams have experienced players, and are among the best teams in the country. Falcons then qualified for the Shield Category semi-finals and won against Catholic Monks. The day was eventually crowned by the Falcons in the finals against Makueni, winning 24-19. Cedric Orenje, a third year Communication Student carried the day, making the winning try.
Congratulations are in order to the rugby team for flying high, to their coach Caleb Bosire, who is also a Daystar alumnus, and to all other Falcons teams that are participating in various leagues this season.
Best wishes to the rugby team as they prepare for Prinsloo 7s which will be held in Nakuru and basketball teams as they prepare to start their play offs in the respective leagues in October. Our best wishes also go to all Falcons teams as they prepare to represent Daystar University in the Kenya University Sports Association – KUSA league at an opening tournament in Kenyatta University, starting on 16th September, 2017
All Daystar sports teams go by the name Falcons.
