Health Awareness Week by Daystar Compassion and Care Centre
Monday 18 to Friday 22, September 2017 was the Nairobi Campus Health Awareness week, for the August 2017 semester. The community at large including students, faculty and staff received free medical checkups and consultations from physicians. Various hospitals and clinics were at large to check Blood pressure, Blood sugar/ Diabetes, Body Mass Index (BMI), Optical, Dental and HIV status. The community also received Nutritional advice from the sponsors, among them Coptic Hospital and Astradental Clinic, and Saham and Chancery Wright Insurance companies.
On Tuesday September 19, 2017, the DCCC staff and students led Chapel service with the student counselor Mr. Allan Ball speaking about ‘seasons in one’s life’. In his sermon, Mr. Ball compared climatic seasons experienced every year to the season a person goes through in their life since conception. He encouraged the audience to respect life seasons and trust in God because He has a reason.
The Daystar Compassion and Care Centre (DCCC) holds Health Awareness week every semester to promote a happy and healthy humanity.
The DCCC hold meetings every day from 3:30-5:00pm at the DCCC lounge, and on different days in the course of the week to tackle various issues through counseling, as follows:
Monday: 12 step group (for addictive behaviors)
Tuesday: Life Group (For chronic illnesses or disabilities)
Wednesdays: Health Awareness Day
Thursday: Hope Group (For trauma related issues, e.g. rape, violence etc)
Friday: Family Group (For family related issues)
From September 25th to 29th 2017, DCCC will pitch camp at the Athi River Campus for the Athi River Health Awareness Week. Please avail yourself for health checkups, consultations and counseling.
