Daystar Faculty Member Makes History in Columbia
For the first time in the history of International Association of Media and Communication Research (IAMCR), an African presented in the closing plenary session of the IAMCR conference.
Dr. Leah Komen, Senior Lecturer & Researcher at the Daystar University Communication Department had the honour of making that history. Komen was one of 1,500 delegates who attended the five day IAMCR conference in Cartagena, Colombia from 16 – 20 July, 2017. On 20th July, Dr. Komen presented on “Challenges and Opportunities for African Early Career Researchers and Scholars.”
Daystar University has been part of IAMCR since 2010 when the Dean, School of Communication, Prof. Levi Obonyo, became a member. Since then, more faculty members from the School of Communication, Languages and Performing Arts have joined IAMCR. “It was a great honour to be invited to present,” said Dr. Leah Komen. Her pioneer presentation as an African placed Daystar University on the international scene.
We celebrate Dr. Komen’s achievements and look forward to bigger engagements in the years to come.
