Call to Participate in the East Africa Student Film Festival
The Patron of the East Africa Student Film Festival Mr. Emmanuel Wanyonyi invites students to submit short film entries before September 21 for consideration during the annual East Africa Student Film Festival (EASFF).
The EASFF offers student filmmakers across East Africa an exclusive prospect to not only interact with their peers but also gain the recognition of industry practitioners and other stakeholders. The festival will provide a forum for student filmmakers to showcase their films in various categories.
Entries should be made in any of four thematic areas namely Feature long films, Short films, Documentary and Smart-phone productions for recognition in 17 award categories: Best Lead Actor; Best Supporting Actor; Best Lead Actress; Best Supporting Actress; Best Sound Designer; Best Production Designer; Best Film Score; Best Make-up Designer; Best Motion Graphics; Best Editor; Best Screenwriter; Best Cinematographer; Best Director (Fiction Film); Best Director (non-fiction Film); Best Short Film; Best Feature Film; Best Documentary Film. Three special categories have also been included for Best smart phone production; Jury award/special mention (fiction/non-fiction); and Contribution to the industry award for the most outstanding film practitioner.
The Festival has so far attracted 15 institutions from across East Africa and beyond, including: Uganda Christian University, University of Iringa, Ruaha Catholic University, Addis Ababa University, Strathmore University, Riara University, University of Nairobi, USIU-Africa, Kenyatta University, Multimedia University of Kenya, Tangaza University College, St. Paul’s University, Technical University of Kenya, PAC University, and Daystar University – the host.
East Africa’s film industry has witnessed exponential growth over the last few years. This has created the need for new and creative talent to further boost the growth of the industry. With the aim to bridge the gap between the creative industry and academia, the East Africa Student Film Festival (EASFF) is nurturing and celebrating promising, creative student talent from institutions of higher learning.
The week-long film festival is supported by the Kenya Film Classification Board (KFCB), Kenya Film Commission (KFC) and Zamaradi Productions.
The event will be opened by H.E. Dina Mufti Sid, Ambassador of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia, and culminate with a gala award night to be graced by the CEO of Kenya Film Classification Board Dr. Ezekiel Mutua.
